About This Blog

Cooking is a scary thing. It really is. It is easy to mess up. So easy. And when you do, you can't go back and undo the whole thing like you can with your calculus exam - you know, where you can just erase your answer and work your solution again. Uh-uh. Once you burn that chicken, its burnt. Just like that.

But, I'm not trying to scare you. If you are scared, then I hope I can console you by saying I felt the same way you did not so long ago. Even now, new recipes still terrify me.

I'm not a great cook. Nor do I claim to be one. Heck, I don't even know if I can make it to the list of good cooks (and a long list that is!). I try though. To cook I mean. Not to get on the good cook list. And all in all I can say that, I'm okay. Yes, that's what I am. I can come up with an edible meal most of the time and therefore I say, I'm okay!

Anyway, this blog is made in no way to dispute that "I'm not a great cook" statement of mine. Because I know what you're thinking. You're rolling your eyes and saying, "Not again! Not another author's narcissistic, self-absorbed blog!" I dislike reading those blogs too, believe me. (I mean, if you're not Bill Clinton -initially I typed Barack Obama but I realize I wouldn't even read his blog if he had one-  or Angelina Jolie, don't write a blog entirely about yourself, or your closest friends or family. Please. Why? Because, who cares! I mean, besides your family. And your closest friends.) So allow me to console you by saying... this blog isn't really about me. You won't find the colorful details of my September in this blog. Nor will you read about what I did last Friday night. It's not my children's progress report, nor their milestones log. And, I PROMISE it will not be my diary. So there, you can be relieved! Whew!

So what is this blog all about then? I can hear you ask. Get to the point! I can hear you yell. Drum rolls, my darlings... This blog is about FOOD - the gastronomic pleasure that we take in everyday, the sustenance that we can't get enough of, the energy that gets us moving, and the blessing we gather around for every morning, noon, and night. Oh yes, food is life's simple pleasure! And this blog is for my friends and for everyone out there whose kitchen is lonely (but wish it isn't so), and who are at a loss on what to serve for dinner tonight.

My recipes are simple. You may be happy to learn this early that I have (drum rolls, please) a grocery budget. Like most people, I presume. So if you're worried that cooking my recipes will cost you a fortune, don't. I really try to keep my grocery expense at a minimum. Therefore be advised that most of my ingredients aren't that fancy, or at least, not too fancy that they can only be bought in the imported section aisle (note that I did say MOST and not ALL, meaning SOME of my ingredients may be classified in the too fancy category. If such is the case I will give an alternative). My taste buds aren't that fastidious either. It won't be able to tell a Php 100 box of cream from the one that's only Php 40. So excuse me if I pick the cheaper kind because I can't tell the difference taste-wise.

Now, I did say that this blog "isn't really about me." (Scrolling up. Yep, I did say that!). But, don't be surprised when I DO occasionally write about random moments in my life as I talk about food. I promise to keep it occasional.

Ladies and gentlemen thank you very much for visiting my blog and allowing me a piece of your valuable time yadi yada yada... I hope you will get something good out of this blog into your kitchen and finally to your dining table where your friends, children, and spouse will be satisfied and happy. I promise not to stop this blog until I make it to 100 recipes of my own. Gulp! A HUNDRED recipes of my own??? I promise not to stop this blog until I make to 100 recipes.

Thank you and may God bless your good heart!

XOXO,

Eat and be merry,
One Domesticated Nerd
